An Award Winning Active Youth Program

The award winning Active Youth Program’s fundamental aim is to offer the Youth of Dorset opportunity and motivation to adopt healthy lifestyles, now and into adulthood. Dorset’s Active Youth Program provides fun physical activities to promote physical wellbeing, mental wellbeing and social inclusion.

The Active Youth Program is made up of the following:

  •  Mountain Bike Program – this program offers all youths aged 12-17 the possibility to ride. The program is free for those who want to join in. Bikes, Helmets & Gloves are all provided and transport to and from the ride is also provided.
  • Active Sea Kayak – Similar to the Mountain bike program; the Active Sea Kayak program offers those aged 12-17 the chance to experience the fun of sea kayaking. All equipment is supplied.
  • Community Programs – The Active Youth Program has been involved in many community events since it was developed in 2012. Zorb Balls, Body Zorbs, Electric Skateboards and more can be offered at events to get kids active and having fun.
  • Leadership Trips – The program offers young leaders living in Dorset the opportunity to travel to different parts of Tasmania to develop their leadership skills and to offer the youth of that area the chance to see what is on offer in Dorset. The trips to date have included 2 x Flinders Island Trips, 1 x Bicheno trip and a trip to West Ulverstone to run an activities day for the Community house there. Upcoming trips include Melbourne and possibly Ayres Rock & remote WA.

The Active Youth Committee is made up of 8 young people from Dorset. The committee plays a big part in the program as they help out throughout the year to help run the program, they are involved in committee meetings throughout the year where ideas are brainstormed as to what will the Active Youth Program will offer next.
